There’s no better feeling than finding those essential basics that are “just right.” You know the ones.
They fit you like a glove. They last. And somehow they go with everything! Some people say basics are boring, but I love seeking out quality basics because I know that when I’ve got them in my closet I can always pull an amazing outfit together.
The secret to basics is you can’t settle for flimsy fabric or a poor fit. They’ve got to feel great and look great! That’s why I always opt for clean lines and soft, comfortable fabrics that are easy to care for.
Here are the five perfect basics that I can’t live without.
1. The Mid-Length Tank
Tank tops are a key part of any wardrobe. They keep us cool in the summer, and they’re essential for layering all year round—especially if you run hot and cold like I do!

The lines curve in at the waist and flare out just a bit at the hip, making me look sleek and sophisticated. Whether I’m dressing it up with a skirt and heels for a nice dinner, or just pairing it with sneakers and jeans for a quick errand, I love how this top makes me look and feel.

This Clara Sunwoo tulip cuff back tie dress is my absolute favorite take on the little black dress. It’s simple but modern. I love the simple silhouette and the back is so cute. The tie back cut out make it feminine but edgy. I find myself throwing it on whenever I don’t want to figure out what to wear. I can dress it up or down, and I can use accessories to create a look that’s soft and romantic, or more dramatic and chic. Either way, this dress always makes me feel extra confident and totally effortless.
5. The Liquid Leather Jacket
If you’re like me, when you’re looking for basics you seek out cozy comfy cardigans. The liquid leather jacket feels like a cardigan but it looks like a sophisticated leather jacket!
I reach for this jacket whenever I want to give my look a little extra edge. It looks and feels like buttery soft leather, but it’s super breathable and lightweight. I can wear it all day, and it’s as comfortable as my favorite yoga gear.
So whether I’m at the office or on the go, I know I’ll feel great while looking like a million bucks. This jacket is super simple but it makes me feel like a total rockstar.
